an update on new low (click to see link) →
Some good news: NEW LOW is going to be available on VOD through Sundance/New Video’s Artist Services initiative. What this means is that sometime in the next couple months, it will be available to watch on some combination of Netflix, Hulu, iTunes, Amazon, YouTube, and SundanceNOW. We’re still working out the details, so we don’t have a specific date lined up yet, but when we do,...

austin's a.v. club write-up →
“With its cast of twentysomething slackers, video-store and dive-bar settings, and focus on relationship issues, writer-director Adam Bowers’ feature debut bears some surface resemblance to the greatest hits of mumblecore. There’s one major difference, however: This movie has a script, and it’s a sharp, witty, frequently laugh-out-loud funny one at that.”

college movie review... review →
“You’ve likely never heard of actor/director Adam Bowers, but I expect that to change in the coming years. The lanky 25 year-old filmmaker has created something very special with New Low: a no-budget slacker romance that actually manages to be entertaining and heartfelt.”

film yap review →
“It’s got a distinct, edgy vibe highlighted by Bowers’ own quizzical acting style and a script filled with biting humor that spares no segment of society…“New Low” is like a photo negative of the tired romantic comedy genre. 4 out of 5 Yaps.”

a quick little write-up from the florida film fest... →
“As writer, director and star of his feature debut (expanded from an earlier short), Adam Bowers makes a very good first impression as Wendell, a lanky and self-deprecating twenty-something who can’t figure out if he belongs with the abrasive Jayme Ratzer or the caring Valerie Jones. It may sound like a thuddingly easy call to make, but Bowers and the cast sell the situational...

article in orlando sentinel, mentioning the movie... →
“But Hollywood goes years, whole presidential administrations, without a decent romantic comedy coming out. Adam Bowers, the University of Florida alumnus who did New Low has buzz partly because he wrote and starred in a pretty good movie, but mostly because he has that field to himself.”

full todd konrad review on vegas outsider →
“Besides its sharp writing, another element that makes New Low fresh is the philosophical stance it takes with relationships… Additionally, Bowers and Ratzer go for the throat performance-wise by creating two characters who are both genuinely unlikable but that you come to respect and love because they pull no punches.”
